The Give - Receive Theory
A famous billionaire was once asked, "What do you attribute to your achieving wealth the most?" His response was, “You have to provide a service to people.” In fact, 14 Billionaires around the world, including Bill Gates, and Warren Buffett signed a "Giving Pledge" to give away at least half of their vast wealth to philanthropic causes. Why would these billionaires do this? you ask. Because they have discovered that the basic principle of giving is what they were called to do, to share the vast wealth they possess. It gives them a sense of "Joy" to give to others.
That seemed like a simplistic response, what that billionaire said was not “earth shattering” or a “lightning bolt” response. However, his response is packed with valuable insight to his path to success and wealth.
Providing a service or “giving” to others in its basic form does not seem like the way to achieve a goal of becoming rich because one would think, if you are constantly giving, you will eventually run out of things to give. But the exact opposite occurs. The more you give the more you receive. This theory of giving provided a means to receive. This is the Give and Receive Theory or Law.
The bible teaches us in Luke 6:38 (NIV) Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For the measure you use will be measured to you.” This verse is telling us that the more we give the more we will receive. It is a simple law of giving and receiving.
It is like Newton’s Third Law - For every action, there is an “equal” and “opposite” reaction. This law states. for you “scholars” out there, that every time you give, you will receive “equal” but if you don't give, the “opposite” will happen, you won't receive.
In Acts 20: 35 (NIV) the last sentence says, it is more blessed to give than to receive. It does not say, you will not be blessed if you receive. It says it is better to give than receive, meaning you will receive more blessings if you give more than you receive. There's that word " give" again!
In fact, in John Chapter 17, the word “give” or “given” is mentioned 17 times! Here, Jesus is praying to our father - God. He is praying for his disciples and for all believers.
God gave us his son, Jesus, Jesus gave us redemption from sin, salvation and eternal life. What more can we ask for? These gifts are priceless!
Jesus wants us to give and share his gifts with other non-believers and sinners, so that they may receive salvation and eternal life also. This theory of give and receive is a never-ending cycle or circle that never ends. The spiritual circle of give and receive is another gift from God. It reveals how we can be blessed and receive abundance and blessings from God.
