Humility is the Key

       HUMILITY IS THE KEY

     Being humble and prayerful when you go through trials and difficult times is the answer and key to being heard by God. 

Psalms 146:8 says The Lord lifts those who are bowed down.  

When you are “bowed down” you are in a praying position. When you are “bowed down” you may be in a position of giving honor as some cultures practice as a posture of gratitude or thankfulness to another person.  

     Humility or being humble go hand in hand. Humility definition according to the Oxford Dictionary - means to be modest or have a low view of one’s own importance or humbleness. 

When we humble ourselves then God can lift us up.

Here are a few more verses from the Bible (NIV) version.  

Old Testament

• Proverbs 22:4 – “Humility is the fear of the LORD; its wages are riches and honor and life.”
  
  

• 2 Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
  
  

New Testament

• Matthew 23:12 – “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
  
  

• Philippians 2:3 – “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves.”
  
  

• James 4:6 – “But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’”
  
  

• James 4:10 – “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”
  
  

1 Peter 5:6 – “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”

       All of these verses refer to humbling yourself first before the Lord and then you will receive the promises and hope that things and circumstances in your life will definitely improve. God hates and detests the proud. 

 Proverbs 16:5 - The Lord detests all the proud of heart.  Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.

     Basically, this can all be summoned up in saying - 

Remain humble, Refrain from pride, Return to prayer and allow the Lord to Restore you!
