Love IS Blind
Is love truly blind you ask? In the popular TV show - Love is Blind - an NBC - Peacock TV Show. which showcases a social experiment that features singles who date behind a wall never seeing their future spouse face to face. but talk and form a relationship over a course of a few weeks. They then decide to get married before ever seeing each other. I have to admit that I am obsessed with this show and how you begin to feel like you know these contestants personally by the end of the season as they reveal personal experiences and personalities. Some experiences that they share make them very vulnerable with their future mates. This causes a close bond and relationship to develop between them and the other person they are dating. Some of these relationships lead to lifelong marriages and some quickly end just after or before they exchange vows at the altar at the end of the show. A year later they have a reunion show to see who remained together and who did not and the reasons why.
I can attest that true love is truly blind! Pure love is blind. God’s love is blind. God does not see or judge our flaws like we do with each other. Through our messy lives, through our sins, through our selfishness, God’s love is unconditional and impartial.
Romans 2:11 (NIV) - For God does not show favoritism.
Galatians 3:28: (NIV) There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
We as humans have a natural tendency to judge each other based on physical appearances, however, God looks at our hearts.
1 Samuel 16:7:(NIV) "But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not consider his appearance or his height... The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.'"
God’s love is demonstrated by his divine grace. Grace is love and forgiveness even when the person has not earned it or does not deserve it. God,, unlike humans, shows his love through forgiveness and a “blind” love for us all day and every day.
God’s love is eternal and never fails. He will never stop loving us. We as humans sometimes fall out of love or fail to show kindness to one another but God’s blind love does the opposite.
Jeremiah 31:3-(NIV) The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
Although God sees all of our flaws and sins, he does not hold it against us, if we simply ask for forgiveness, he will show us blind love by forgiving and forgetting our sins.
1 John 1:9 -(NIV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
God sees our mistakes, he simply does not let that be the end of our story. He shows “blind love” towards us by forgiving us and allowing us to begin again with a clean slate so we can re-write our story.
